Liposuction

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a procedure focused on improving and contouring the body and face shape by eliminating stubborn fat from targeted areas of the body or face.
The procedure involves fine cannulas inserted through small and hidden incisions in inconspicuous body parts that help extract the fat in a very smooth and precise manner.

Dr. López offers various techniques and technologies including VASER ultrasonic mainly used in Liposuction HD, and MICROAIRE technology for a tumescent technique.

What is liposuction not for?

Liposuction is not for weight loss. It is not a treatment for cellulite, sagging skin or skin surface irregularities. Although by eliminating fat, the patient does lose a small amount of weight. For each liter that is extracted, around 700 grams can be lost, but much of the fat can be re-integrated with lipoinjection. (Fat transfer for BBL and other procedures).
The results are mainly noticed by eyesight, noticing the improvements in body shape rather than fluctuations in weight.

Commonly treated areas

  • Abdomen

  • Legs

  • Arms

  • Flanks (“love handles”)

  • Lower and upper back

  • Buttocks

  • Hips

  • Waist

  • Under chin

  • Calves

Liposuction may be conducted in almost any body area with excess fat.

CANDIDATES

You may be an ideal candidates for a liposuction if:

  • You are in your ideal weight and in overall good health

  • You have realistic expectations about the outcome of your procedure.

  • You have excess stubborn fat in certain areas of your body or face

  • You have a Body mass Index of 30 or less (do not have obesity)
For safety reasons, having a BMI greater than 30 puts a patient at risk when conducting a liposuction.

It is important that the patient is healthy or controlled in case they suffer from a disease such as hypertension or diabetes.

LIPOSUCTION TECHNOLOGIES

Dr. Raul Lopez has several advanced technologies for this procedure. Techniques are selected according to the patient’s needs in order to obtain the most optimal and desired results.

Micro Aire

This technology consists of a handpiece that produces a reciprocating vibration movement. This technology is used to:

  • Facilitate the procedure and perform a liposuction more uniform, reducing surgical time.
  • Conduct secondary liposuctions easily in patients with scars or fibrosis.
  • Perform lipoinjection (fat transfer) because it uses the appropriate temperature to preserve the fat obtained during liposuction.
  • Conduct High Definition Liposuction with Butt and Hip Augmentation (BBL / Fat Transfer) when combined with VASER

Vaser

VASER is an ultrasound technology that helps extract fat from compact areas or fibrosis, producing a retraction of the skin. It is mostly used for High Definition liposuction to trace certain muscles, giving results with a more regular surface. This technique is ideal to contour and define the body by tracing the patient’s musculature, giving an athletic look.

BodyTITE

BodyTITE is a non-invasive radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis technology. It is used for skin tightening and may be combined with or without liposuction. BodyTITE may reduce fat without causing loose skin. The procedure is commonly combined with liposuction to tighten the skin. In some cases when patients have a minimal amount of excess skin in the abdomen, BodyTite serves as an alternative to a tummy tuck procedure.

Treated Areas: Body (Minimally Invasive)

Usually for excess skin in the body, like arms and abdomen.

The BodyTITE machine has 4 technologies for various face and body treatments without surgery!

The Procedure

First a small incisions are made in discrete parts of the treated areas. Through these incisions a thin cannula is inserted to infiltrate a special solution. When fully infiltrated, the cannula begins  pulling the fat to be removed. The cannula sucks and disposes the fat while Dr. Lopez begins to strategically target the fat deposits while sculpting the figure of the patient. The fat is either discarded or repurposed for fat transfer in desired areas.

Incisions and Scars

The diameter of a regular cannula measures approximately 3-5 millimeters in diameter leaving a very small scar. Incisions are shielded with special protectors, avoiding cannula friction that can damage the skin. Incisions are placed in discrete areas of the body such as:

  • The belly button for abdominal liposuction
  • The armpits for back and arm liposuction
  • Lower pubic area
  • Other areas typically hidden within the natural skin folds.

These Inconspicuous scars measure less than one centimeter and are not very noticeable since Dr. Lopez takes great care of these incisions and other small details during the procedure.

Liposuction combined with other surgical procedures

This procedure is usually combined with lipoinjection, where excess fat is used to increase volume and improve the shape of the body. Fat augmentation is company seen in the buttocks and hips, face, other areas with lack of volume . Fat transfer or fat grafting is performed on fat extracted from the same patient. A small part of the transferred fat is absorbed, but the majority is integrated, giving very good results that can be permanent.

Results

After liposuction, the body looks more harmonious and with better proportions. Liposuction results can be long-lasting if patients maintain their weight with proper diet and exercise. In cases where a high definition liposuction is conducted, the body looks more athletic.

Recovery

From the day of the surgery, the patient can walk, shower and make moderate movements. Patients can return to office work 5 days after surgery, avoiding physical effort for the next 2-3 weeks.

If liposuction is combined with other procedures, additional care may be required.
